Association
The Pro Museo del Cappello Association was founded in 1992 on the initiative of a group of hat makers from the Panizza factory, which had closed its historic facility in Ghiffa. The aim was to create a museum that would preserve and celebrate the factory’s century-long history through the exhibition of machinery, documents, and products from the hat-making industry.
The museum was inaugurated in 1993, and since then the Association has worked to support its activities and promote its mission through the organization of events, the development of research projects and publications, the expansion of the collections, and their preservation.
Since 2007, the Museum has been part of the museum network managed and coordinated by the Union of Municipalities of Lake Maggiore through specific cooperation agreements. Within this framework, since 2017 the Association has partnered with the Union in planning and implementing cultural initiatives across the entire network, thereby broadening its role in supporting the other participating museums.
Since 2024, the Association has been registered in Italy’s National Register of Third Sector Entities (RUNTS).
